Mental Health Services

InterCare’s primary care teams are integrated with mental health and addiction professionals in recognition of the connection between mind, body, behavioral issues, and other determinants of health. We offer brief focused mental health interventions when you visit your doctor, and we can provide longer term outpatient counseling therapy in collaboration with your health care team if needed. InterCare’s licensed mental health professionals include Mental Health Consultants who are readily available to talk to you at the time of your medical visit. We also have licensed and certified addiction specialists and counselors who will address mild to moderate mental health issues over the longer term. In addition, InterCare’s staff includes case workers and community health workers who can help address other support needs such as housing resources, domestic violence interventions, or food assistance.

Some of the ways our mental health professionals can help you include:

• Mood disorders, anxiety disorders, symptoms of psychosis
• Post-partum depression
• Self-harm
• PTSD/Trauma
• Weight management/healthy eating
• Chronic pain management
• Smoking cessation
• Insomnia
• Trauma
• Bullying
• ADHD
• Parenting skills

PSYCHIATRY
In addition to both brief and longer term mental health counseling services, InterCare does offer in-person psychiatric services at its Benton Harbor location. InterCare’s psychiatry team works in concert with your primary care provider or mental health therapist to evaluate and prescribe treatment for mild or moderate mental health problems. These psychiatric evaluation and management services are provided collaboratively with your medical provider and our counseling staff. More severe psychiatric needs are referred to your local Community Mental Health agency. If you are a patient at an InterCare office besides Benton Harbor, a telehealth visit with our psychiatry staff can be arranged.
